Interior—Lights

A view of the uphostery department at the Kissel factory

The headlights seem unreasonably dim when Bugsby first arrives, then stop working altogether. The problem is eventually traced to burned contacts in the fuse block. Repeated attempts to clean the contacts only result in temporary operation. Eventually Lynn removes the headlight connection to the fuse block and installs a separate 20A circuit breaker. This solution has resulted in bright and stable operation of the lights.

Lynn also installs 50W/35W dual-filament headlight bulbs, replacing the 35W/35W bulbs that came in the car. Between the new/brighter bulbs and the better performance of the circuit breaker, Lynn is now reasonably comfortable driving Bugsby after dark around Livermore.

Bugsby has some aftermarket, reasonably modern turn signals installed. Lynn guesses that these were required to satisfy Australian requirements for street operation. Lynn repairs them rather than removing them as he feels they are a great safety feature when he's mixing it up with more modern cars on the street.

Lynn plans to create some kind of pluggable, easily removable turn lights in the future. The idea is that the extra lights are very helpful for safe operation on the street, but they need to be easily and cleanly removed for car shows.
